Cecelia Thompson officially is the Triad’s favorite blogger.
Her site, modmealsonmendenhall.com, received more votes than any other blog in Go Triad’s recent Readers’ Choice survey of area businesses, attractions and personalities.
But because of an error in how votes were tabulated, Go Triad mistakenly reported that Ed Williams, author of the North Carolina Wine of the Month Club blog, was the winner.
Uh, sorry Ed. We still love you. But Cecelia takes the top spot.
Here’s what happened. Voters typed in both Thompson’s name and the name of her blog, and each was counted separately. The two totals together, though, added up to more than what Williams received.
“I noticed that about eight percent of people had written my name, eight percent the blog’s name — that equaled 16 percent,” she said. “The winner that was published received about 12 percent.”
This is her second year in a row winning Readers’ Choice for best blogger.
Originally from Gaines-ville, Fla., Thompson has lived in North Carolina for about 10 years and works as director of projects at the economic development organization Action Greensboro.
She started writing her blog two years ago. Mod Meals On Mendenhall features recipes, foodie news and photos from her travels. The blog recently received a mention on food magazine Bon Appétit’s website.
“It started as kind of a summer boredom project,” she said. “My family, when I was growing up, we were all together in the kitchen. We really enjoyed cooking, and I like to eat. That combo worked out well.”
Thompson also writes a column based on the blog that appears on the third Wednesday of the month in the News & Record’s Savor section.
